Application steps
Choose the right Australian visa type
Start by identifying the visa category that matches your purpose of travel — for tourism, family visits, and business, Saudis typically use the Visitor Visa Subclass 600. Subclasses include: Tourist stream, Business Visitor stream, Sponsored Family stream, or Approved Destination Status. Subclass 600 allows stays of 3, 6, or 12 months depending on the case, and the decision is issued by the Australian Department of Home Affairs.
Create an ImmiAccount
Open the official ImmiAccount portal, create an account, and select Visitor Visa (subclass 600) – Tourist stream (apply outside Australia). Everything is online: completion, document upload, and payment. For the full Tourist stream guide see the Tourist stream overseas page.
Fill the application and upload documents
Inside ImmiAccount, complete the questionnaire fully and upload electronic copies of:
- Passport valid for 6 months past departure, with at least one blank page.
- Iqama copy (for residents) or Saudi national ID (for Saudi nationals).
- Recent photo to Australian visa specifications.
- Bank statement stamped for the last 3–6 months proving financial means.
- Letter from your employer + recent salary certificate.
- Round-trip flight booking and hotel reservation covering the entire stay.
- Cover letter explaining the purpose of travel and trip plan.
- Sponsorship and invitation letter if applying under Sponsored Family stream.Pay the embassy fees
Pay the Visa Application Charge (VAC) electronically at the end of the application on ImmiAccount via credit card. Fees vary by visa category (tourism is typically around AUD 200, business is lower, Sponsored Family is higher). Fees are non-refundable even if the application is refused.
Submit biometrics if requested
After submission you may receive a Biometrics Letter to give biometrics at the Australian VFS Global centre in Riyadh (AVAC). Book an appointment and attend with your passport and the letter. Biometrics aren't requested from every applicant — but if requested they must be completed within the specified deadline.
Track processing on ImmiAccount
The Department of Home Affairs reviews the application. Standard processing time for Subclass 600 Tourist stream is around 35 days for 90% of applications, varying by season and document completeness. Track your application and update documents on ImmiAccount. For general queries see the visa section of the Australian Embassy in Riyadh or contact the GSC on +61 2 6196 0196.
Receive the decision and travel
When the decision is issued, you receive a Grant Notice email — the Australian visa is fully electronic (eVisa) and is not stickered into the passport. Print the letter or save it on your phone to present at check-in and arrival. The visa is linked to your passport number, so if you renew your passport before travelling you must transfer the visa via ImmiAccount.
