This page has a full step-by-step guide so you can apply to the embassy on your own. But one mistake on the form, a missing translation, or a weak financial file can cost you the visa. Call us first — your consultation is free. We review your case, prepare the complete file with correct forms, certified translation, and embassy-grade travel insurance, and coach you for the interview — so when you submit, your file is at its strongest. The visa decision and issue date rest solely with the embassy.

In cooperation with the German Embassy in Riyadh and according to its standards, Trip Away handles Germany Schengen visa applications for residents of Saudi Arabia. We prepare your file end-to-end, book the biometrics appointment at the TLScontact centre, and provide full consultation. Final decisions rest with the German Embassy.

Processing time 7-15 business days

Application steps
  1. Choose the right German visa type

Start by identifying the visa category that matches your purpose of travel — tourism, family visit, business, medical, or study. Since October 2022, all Germany visa applications from Saudi Arabia residents are submitted exclusively through TLScontact centres for Germany, the official partner of the German Embassy in Riyadh. VFS Global no longer accepts Germany visa applications.

  2. Fill the VIDEX online form

Use the official VIDEX system — the unified portal of the German Federal Foreign Office for filling Schengen visa applications. The system is available in Arabic and English, and after completion generates a PDF form with a barcode that speeds up processing at the centre. If you don't complete the form within 10 continuous minutes your data is deleted, so save your reference number to return later.

  3. Prepare the required documents

Review the Schengen visa document checklist from the German Embassy, and prepare:
    - Passport valid for 3 months past your departure, with two blank pages, issued within the last 10 years.
    - Iqama copy valid (for residents) or Saudi national ID (for Saudi nationals).
    - Printed and signed VIDEX form.
    - Bank statement stamped for the last 3 months.
    - Letter from your employer + recent salary certificate.
    - Round-trip flight booking and hotel reservation covering the entire stay.
    - Schengen travel insurance with a minimum coverage of €30,000.
    - Two recent passport-size photos to Schengen specifications.

  4. Book the biometrics appointment at TLScontact

Book your appointment at one of the three TLScontact centres: Riyadh, Jeddah, or Khobar. In-person attendance is mandatory per embassy guidelines. Booking is available up to 6 months before the travel date, and submitting at least 15 working days before travel is recommended.

  5. Attend the appointment and pay the fees

At your appointment the VIDEX form barcode is scanned, ten-finger biometrics and a face photo are taken, the file is reviewed, and your passport is retained. The embassy fee (Schengen) and TLScontact service fee are paid at the centre. Biometrics are mandatory for anyone aged 12 and above; the procedure takes about 15–20 minutes inside the centre.

  6. Track processing at the German Embassy in Riyadh

Since 1 July 2024 the visa section at the German Consulate in Jeddah has closed, and the German Embassy in Riyadh has become the sole authority issuing decisions for all Schengen applications in Saudi Arabia. The decision is usually issued within 7 to 15 working days, and may extend in exceptional cases. Track your application via the TLScontact account you created at booking.

  7. Collect your passport and visa

When the decision is issued, your passport is returned to the TLScontact centre where you applied. Collect it in person with your ID, or request home delivery if available. Before travelling, check the visa details (name, number of entries, validity dates, residency type) and keep copies of your bookings and insurance to present at the border if requested.

FAQ
  • What is a Schengen visa?

A unified visa that allows entry to 29 European countries within the Schengen area on a single visa, with a stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

  • How long is a Schengen visa valid?

Usually granted short-term (up to 3 months) with single or multiple entries. In some cases it can be issued for longer — up to 5 years.

  • Can I travel between Schengen countries on a single visa?

Yes, a Schengen visa allows entry to and free travel between all 29 Schengen countries with no extra visa required.

  • What is the most common reason for refusal?

Weak ties to Saudi Arabia, failing to convince the embassy you will return, weak financial standing, or incomplete documents. We strengthen your file before submission.

  • Does the application require a personal interview?

Usually not — most applications are decided on the documents. In special cases the embassy may request an interview.
