Application steps
Choose the right Canadian visa type
Start by identifying the visa category that matches your purpose of travel — tourism (Visitor Visa / TRV), business, medical, study (Study Permit), or work (Work Permit). Most Saudis need the temporary resident visa (TRV) for visits, often issued multiple-entry for up to 10 years (or until passport expiry). For an overview of categories see the official Visit Canada section on Canada.ca.
Create an account and submit the application on IRCC
Open an IRCC online account with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Fill the visitor visa application on the Apply for a Visitor Visa portal, upload electronic documents, and pay the embassy fees by credit card. After submission you receive a Biometrics Instruction Letter (BIL) by email asking you to visit the VFS Canada centre in Saudi Arabia to give biometrics.
Prepare the required documents
Review the full document checklist on the Visitor Visa application page on Canada.ca, and prepare:
- Passport valid for at least the expected stay duration, with at least one blank page.
- Iqama copy (for residents) or Saudi national ID (for Saudi nationals).
- Recent photo to IRCC specifications.
- Bank statement stamped for the last 6 months.
- Letter from your employer + recent salary certificate.
- Round-trip flight booking and hotel reservation covering the entire stay.
- Invitation letter if the visit is family-related.
- Cover letter explaining the purpose of travel and trip plan.
In-person attendance is mandatory at the biometrics stage.Book the biometrics appointment at VFS Canada
After receiving the Biometrics Instruction Letter (BIL) from IRCC, book an appointment at one of the VFS Canada centres in Riyadh, Jeddah, or Khobar. You must give biometrics within 30 days of the BIL date. To find the nearest centre officially, use the Find a VAC tool from Canada.ca.
Attend the biometrics appointment
Attend the VFS centre with your passport, the BIL letter, and the biometrics fee receipt (if not paid with the IRCC application). Ten-finger biometrics and a face photo are taken, and the data is sent electronically to IRCC. Biometrics are valid for 10 years for visit, study, and work applications. You may also submit your passport here if requested later for visa-sticker issuance.
Track processing at IRCC
IRCC reviews the application. Processing time varies by season and demand; check the official processing-times tool on Canada.ca for an accurate estimate. Track your application via your IRCC portal account. If your passport is requested for visa-sticker issuance, you will receive a Passport Request (PPR) letter.
Submit your passport and collect the visa
When the PPR letter is issued, submit your passport to the VFS centre where you applied. The passport is returned with the visa sticker via VFS or courier within days to a few weeks. Before travelling, check the visa data (name, number of entries, validity dates, residency type) and keep copies of your bookings and insurance to present to CBSA on arrival.
